Landmark Church Conversion With Glorious Original Detail, Parkside Location and Private Garden - CHAIN FREE.

Built in 1903 by famed arts and craft architect P.A. Robson, this divine chapel conversion is the jewel in the crown of the exclusive St Gabriel’s school house development. Truly a baptism of beauty, the building has been home to a chapel, a seminary and in later years part of the campus of Goldsmiths College of Art. The current owners, working closely with English Heritage and the chief planning officer of Lambeth, have crafted a most unique and tasteful living environment, entirely respectful of the sanctity of the structure. It's a plush, park side residence fit for a deacon, DJ or even Damien Hirst (he studied here in the Goldsmith years). The main living room, rising to a celestial height of over 30 ft, bears witness to some exquisite original detail - saintly stained glass, majestic mezzanines, pews, pulpit and picturesque inlaid marble floor on the altar. An impressively restored Latin-inscribed wooden frieze encircles the space with ecumenical enthusiasm and the main solid wooden kitchen unit has been refashioned from the original altar - heavenly! The accommodation comprises a positively cavernous open-plan living area, three separate mezzanines hosting four separate bedrooms, two dressing rooms, office, bathroom, shower room, wc and open-plan library. It's a conversion with integrity - a marriage of residential, traditional worship and contemporary ingenuity. The gated development overlooks the very lovely Victorian Myatt's Field, with its bandstand and cafe - a real delight whatever the season! Myatt's Field is a real joy. The location leaves you within an easy walk of Camberwell and its fab list of social endeavours. Oval station offers a zone 2 Northern Line connections - it's an easy 12 minute walk.

The seductively curved entrance hall is double height, with a solid wooden original door leading inward from the beautifully maintained communal grounds. Your garden enjoys direct access to Cormont Road. Inward bound, a curved stone staircase with wide steps dons a vibrant pin striped carpet. Ambling upward to the raised ground floor you find super cool corrugated Industrial flooring and stainless steel cabinets. An inner hall boasts solid parquet flooring, maple wooden walls with downlit niches for your treasured artworks. Abundant recessed storage sits seamlessly throughout. Double glass doors open to the right to a further hall space off which sits a large office with stained glass window (the first of many) and ubiquitous storage. The far side of the hall hosts a bedroom with much the same detail. A WC is seamlessly nestled next door.

A further set of glass double doors open next to that truly magnificent living space which peaks at over 30 ft. Two four-metre-high original stained glass windows peer down from either side, each with splendidly maintained detail. An even more impressive stained glass triptych sits on the rear wall. To the left of the seating area sits an expertly arranged kitchen with a wide solid wooden breakfast bar ingeniously recrafted from the original altar. Two sets of church pews will seat the most pious of your guests. The highly polished stainless steel cabinets are plentiful and crowned with marble counters. Appliances include a five ring gas hob, oven and dishwasher. Your dining area (easily equipped to host the last supper) sits under the pulpit which has all its original wooden detail and a concealed area for drying clothes. The marble altar hosts more seating and dining space and even room for a grand piano. A nifty floating wall to the rear conceals a neat set of steps which leads to the first of your mezzanine areas. This is a glorious open-plan carpeted space with glass walls and an eagles eye over the main stained glass feature. Read More

Heading back to the main hall you find an oak staircase leading upward, firstly to a spacious mezzanine with two separate double bedrooms. Both have abundant storage and stained glass. Two separate dressing rooms and a contemporary bathroom complement them perfectly. The right-hand bedroom offers access to the library where all your classics will slot neatly into a run of bespoke bookshelves. It's a wonderful place for a seating arrangement with more views over the main living area. Upward again you find the loftiest of your mezzanines with the most glamorous downward vista. There's a lavish, open free-standing bath, school house radiators and an opportunity to stand face to face with the Latin inscribed original wooden frieze.

A number of buses on Camberwell New Road will whizz you to the underground station at the Oval (Northern Line) or take one directly into the West End (a 15-20 minute trip). If you work in the city, Loughborough Junction mainline station (Blackfriars & City Thameslink) is a five-minute walk away. There are shops too within easy walking distance. After a hard day at the office chill out at the much loved 'Sun of Camberwell with good food and great cocktails. We love 'The Crooked Well' or the 'Camberwell Arms' for tasty nosh and a pint. Nearby Brixton has a further flood of fab things to do. The 'Ritzy' cinema is a fab spot to catch art house and mainstream movies. Windrush Square has been tarted up too. There's a huge selection of bars and restaurants - we love the Brixton Village covered market. If the weather's good you can practice your forehand at the tennis courts in Myatt's Fields Park opposite.
